Let us discuss what HPV means, and its most common causes.
HPV is the short-term for Human Papillomavirus. Papillomaviruses do exist in both human and animal kingdom. But for obvious reason, we will only be discussing human paplillomavirus.
Currently, there are 100 identified types of human papillomavirus (HPV), and roughly 30 unidentified ones. These are various group of DNA-based viruses that brings infection to the skin and mucous membranes of an individual.
HPV brings different abnormalities in the human body. One of the most common effects of HPV are warts. And for some serious cellular abnormalities HPV infected women are more likely to have cervical cancers if not acted on the early stage of the virus.
There are about 30 to 40 types of HPV transferring to the victims body when sexual contact is active. Those HPV that were sexually transmitted may cause genital warts. However, other types of this virus which may infect the genitals do not cause any noticeable signs of infection.
With many amount of women having cervical cancer, HPV has been the major cause of it. But with a regular cervical Pap smear, the invasive cervical cancer may be prevented.
