11 Warts Myths
Often times we stumble into informations that are questionable. We all are aware that when it comes to dealing with health problems there is no room for errors. I have obtained below from an article I read the most common myths there is about warts.
1. Warts have roots
-NO, THEY DO NOT. Warts can not grow into the deep inner layer of the skin (dermis), they only develop in the epidermis (the upper most layer of the skin) and if any chance they mature deeper, they only force out the dermis with their smooth bottoms.
2. Warts are not contagious
-YES, THEY ARE. A very small skin abrasion makes an area of the skin on your body subject to infection, and others may get the infection from you. It is a fact that genital warts are highly contagious.
3. You can cure warts
-NO, YOU CANNOT. The warts virus (caused by HPV) lives in your DNA. Fortunately, there are now a lot of ways to remove them.
4. Warts can come from toads
-NO, THEY CANNOT. Toads do have them, but they can not contribute in the development of human warts.
5. You can always tell if someone has genital warts.
-NO, YOU CANNOT. It is known that only 10% of all genital warts can be seen by the naked eyes. They can be found hiding in the skin folds, or internally. Commonly, they are not painful, do not cause bleeding and the person infected with it may not even feel it himself/herself.
6. Warts don’t cause cancer
-YES, GENITAL WARTS CAN. With all the cases of cervical cancer 70% of them are caused by two types of HPV genital warts. That is why it is important that all women active to sex must have their regular clinic visits for pap smears.
7. You can transmit warts from your hands to your genitals and vice versa
-NO, YOU CANNOT. HPV have many types and the ones that causes warts in our body excluding the genital area are not the same as the ones that causes genital warts.
8. You can’t do anything to prevent wart growths
-YES, YOU CAN. The number one method to prevent wart growths is by boosting your immune system. How to have a healthy immune system? Staying away from alcohol and cigars are some good habits. Drinking water regularly and having a healthy diet is another. And exercising regularly is one of the most effective ways to boost your immune system.
9. Warts will always keep on growing
-NO, THEY WILL NOT. Their growth have limits. In most cases, they disappear naturally after a few months. Though in some cases they may multiply, and that is the time when there is no reason for you not to seek help from your doctor.
10. Warts treatment is painful
-IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE. While electrocautery, freezing, surgery, and acid prescriptions are painful and have different levels of success, external warts can be cured with natural products that offer less pain, or no pain at all.
11. Warts can’t grow back
-YES, THEY CAN. They just naturally can.
